From where I sit right now, I can see no less than 3 areas in my kitchen that I am completely stumped on when it comes to decorating. If I were to venture into an adjoining room, I know I'd find a few more problem areas.
I don't know about you, but I have been known to just buy something, anything, and hang it up/put it on the couch/lay it on the bed/arrange it on the bookshelf. Just to fill the space.
And the truth?
I don't always really like the results.
But the offending area continues to exist "as is" because many times I am too scared (or too lazy!) to try again. It's easy to learn to look past those areas, pretending like they don't exist. Every once in awhile, my eyes will land on the problem spot and I get a little shock to my system.
"What was I thinking?"
One of my goals for 2010 is to begin thrifty makeovers on several parts of our home. I'm aiming to knock down that wall of decorating/crafting fear of failure and attempt fearlessness in trying new things. I've spent too much time focusing on the imperfections of our house, rather than being thankful that I even have a house to call home. Stacey's recent post on "Making [her] House a Home" was a great reminder.
The only problem?
Sometimes there are spots that have been "bleh" for so long that I am just stumped when it comes to thinking of new ways to dress them up.
That's where you come in.
I bet you might have a Decorating Dilemma or two of your own: Curtain fabrics you can't settle on, an empty wall with three swatches of paint colors taped to it, a Dining room buffet that needs accessorizing, or an uninspired and empty front porch.
Join me for a Decorating Dilemmas Party on Wednesday, January 13th (party will go up on Tuesday night after 10pm)!
Write a post and share a photo or two of the Dilemma you'd like some feedback on. Tell us about the problem. Include this button and/or a link to the party in your post and then link up here on Serenity Now.
Don't have a Dilemma (lucky you!)? Share a SOLUTION!
You'll find the first Decorating Dilemmas Party here to see how it worked. I hope you'll take a few minutes to glance around your own home and find something that you'd like some fresh ideas for. Start simple with something small. Don't feel like you have to tackle an entire room. It is still January, after all!
Be there or be square!
Yeah! The decorating dilemma party is back. I must admit that I've yet to take any of the advice that I got the last few times on the problem I posted.
ReplyDeleteI was so hoping you'd have another dilemma party!

I totally know the "bleh" problem. My problem? Sometimes, when it's been bleh too long, I don't even know it's BLEH. I'm excited for this party Amanda!
ReplyDeleteI adore your blog! It is really cute! The title is what really caught my attention - it is very creative and original!

ReplyDeleteAmanda, I will join the par-tay..I am kind of at a standstill right now, moved in here 6 mos ago and still dozens of boxes to go through..we downsized so much has to go..my tastes have changed so much over the years, and I only want things that make me and hubby happy. So I am stuck with needing help right now, but will be glad to spout off my silly opinion!

ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! I have so many areas like this. Ones that just confound me.
ReplyDeleteI hope I'll be able to pull together what I need to get some feedback. It's such a busy week... But here's to trying. Thanks for giving us the opportunity.
