Ode to Spray Paint

Spray Paint, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thy cheapness and widespread availability.
The rattling sound as I shake your can fills me with glee.
I loathe the drying time, Spray Paint, but you saveth me money.
I love thine ability to transform objets d'crap into objets d'cuteness.

Thank you, Ms. Elizabeth Barrett Browning, for letting me borrow your opening line today.

A couple of weeks ago, I scored this ugly-with-potential wood pedastal bowl at a local church yard sale.

These are really a dime a dozen at any yard sale, thrift store, or consignment shop. Two or three years ago, I would have marched right past this.

Now I know the power of spray paint!
A couple coats of Wal-Mart white spray paint did the trick! If you really want to have fun with something like this, you could spray paint a piece a nice shade of aqua and do some polka dots.

Now that I've spray painted it, what can I do with it? I used some items around my house to give you some ideas for your own spray paint redos:

~It could be a nice twist on a gift basket for a beloved preschool teacher.

~T would have a hard time losing his stuff if I could train him to drop his wallet and keys in this when he gets home.

~I've run out of room on the girls' handmade bow holder. This is a nice substitute until I get around to make a new one.

~Filled with cheerful lemons and stationed next to a quote tile with an encouraging Bible verse, it gives me something to look at when I do dishes for the 57th time each day.
There you have it...a little bit of spray paint can go a long way with your yard sale finds. Don't be afraid to try it out.

What's your favorite Spray Paint Makeover piece?

  6. I paint my face every day to make it look better, (sometimes that's questionable) so why not spray paint my trash to become treasure.:) I have two spray projects that I hope to complete this week, weather permitting.

  10. Super cute!! I've never spray painted anything, but I'm on this kick right now where for some reason I want all my furniture to be white...it's all I can do to keep myself from spraying it all! I might have to do just one thing to get it out of my system, ha!

  15. I like it with the lemons! Hmm...maybe I could train my hubby to drop stuff in it instead of on the floor...but I don't think it would be cute with dirty socks!

  16. I do love spray paint as well. My fingers definitely cramp up though after a good paint. I'm such a wimp. I love how the lemons look in it. So cute!

  17. Great update! I would think that I'd died and gone to heaven if I got a cute gift like this from a student.

I didn't spray paint much until I discovered blogging. My favorite update so far has been on two lawn chairs that I got at an estate sale. I got advice from fellow bloggers on what to do with them through one of your parties.

  19. I love stuff like this. I swear I troll yard sales and Goodwill just for things to spray paint.

This may be TMI, but I was going to the bathroom today and looked up at the mirror over the sink and thought, "I'm spray painting that mirror tomorrow."

My fave spray painting makeover is the tin ceiling tile artwork over my bed :)

  43. I, too, walk past things like that every day, not seeing the potential! But now you've shown me what they can look like with a coat of paint, and I'm sure I'll be spending more money on "trash" in the near future, knowing I can turn it into "treasure." :) Great job!

I love to hear your feedback! Please feel free to leave comments...just don't send me spam asking me to buy stuff off your website! I've got three kids and no money to purchase your magic weight-loss pill or bust enhancement, or whatever else you might be selling. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you! :)
