The thing is, I have a slight phobia about appliances with blades and spinning attachments. It was 7 1/2 years into our marriage before I broke down and used the Kitchen Aid stand mixer T and I received as a wedding gift.
You'd think a successful run with that piece of machinery would've cured me, but a glance at the sharp blade attachments for the food processor scared me away for the better part of two years.
It took a generous neighbor with a box top full of fresh veggies for me to overcome my food processor fears.
I did a little internet searching and found a recipe for zucchini bread on allrecipes.com that had a couple thousand good reviews.
A little chopping, a little noisy shredding, and we were on our way!
The bread turned out delicious: dense, moist, and sweet.
Here's the recipe:
{Zucchini Bread}

So it was totally worth risking my fingers for! A great treat to pair with a homemade mocha when friends come over for a playdate.

That's hilarious! I thought I was the only one. I am dead frieghtened of the blender and have only started using one now that I found one that has about 6 locking features on it. Even then I am still nervous when I flip the switch.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the worst appliance/item, in my opinion, is the V-Slicer. You usually find them at home events or on tv. It has a very sharp blade that you slice things on with a safety guard. When I bought it the man said you could cut long vegetables without the safety guard (until the end). So I tried that with a carrot and nearly sliced off the top of my finger. That one went right out the door!
Thanks for the recipe, looks good.
Things like this have always terrified me, maybe thats why we still don't have one. I don't even like the big knives we have. Thanks for the recipe. My grandmother use to make this all the time so I haven't had it for years, yummo!

Isn't it great? We LOVE homemade zucchini bread. My oldest asks for it all the time. I grew zucchini in the garden last year for the first time and it took over the garden and only produced 4 zucchini all summer. We did not plant it again and my oldest was so sad. I'm going to make him some next week!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a food processor, but I can understand your hesitation. Ironically, though, I'll shred vegetables on a grater until the moment before my fingertips get shredded, and that doesn't frighten me.
ReplyDeleteAre you making carrot cake next?
I love this!!!! I completely relate!!! I recently got married and my husband brought his blender with him to our new home. I haven't had the nerve to figure it out yet...your zuchini bread looks SO yummy!!! Wish there was a taste button so you could share it with us. It sounds perfect for my breakfast this morning.
ReplyDeleteCross your fingers for me on my first attempt to "blend" something...can you do veggies in it too? Obviously I am a "blender virgin"!!! LOL
I am so glad you didn't lose a finger! My husband was begging me to make zuchinni bread the other day because my Gramma has a ton of zuchinni in her garden. Don't know if you know or not, but shredded zuchinni freezes really well, I always shred mine and then freeze it in individual baggies measured to the recipe and then we can have zuchinni bread all year long! Your bread looks really good, I am going to have to break down and bake!
ReplyDeleteWe love zucchini bread - this looks delish!
ReplyDeleteI always had a fear of garbage disposals. I was afraid that my hand would slip and it would be curtains for my fingers or my sons. HA!
ReplyDeleteSo I know how you feel. That bread looks and sound delicious!!
Good for you
Hugs

Too funny! I love the vintage food processor though, I think my grandma had one just like that in her old house!
ReplyDeleteAmanda,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE getting recipes from your blog. I always get the simplest (which are so good for me) yet delicious recipes from you. I am going to be trying this bread soon. :)

Mmm, zucchini bread! Reminds me of grandma. I haven't had it in a long time. Unfortunately, zucchini is one thing we didn't plant in our garden, but maybe I'll have to buy some just to make the bread.
ReplyDeleteMr. SP and I were just talking about Zucchini bread the other day (probably after you posted the link to all of those delicious sounding recipes). It's official, I must make some when he returns home.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your new appliance. I don't use a food processor too often, but when I do, I sure am glad to have it.
I got my mom's old food processor last year and I pureed everything (to sneak in veggies- Deceptively Delicious) until my blades broke. I haven't ordered a replacement yet. Wish I had after seeing this. That looks so yummy! I love zuchini bread almost as much as banana bread. YUM!
ReplyDeleteto make it a little healthier, you can make this recipe with only half a cup of oil and then a half cup of applesauce (instead of a whole cup of oil). yum! i'm jealous of your food processor...i actually GRATE my veggies for recipes like this...which means they don't often get made! :)
ReplyDeleteOk, three things:
ReplyDelete1. I was going to say, zucchini bread kind of grosses me out! But I've eaten it and it's sooo good...maybe I'll have to try that recipe!
2. I was coming to say that and then I saw I was today's sponsor and I got all excited. :) That made me happy!
3. I'm proud of myself, I have my post for the dishing it party all written up and scheduled for Wednesday already! Yay!!!
Have a great day!
OH that looks yummy. I'm going to come back to the recipe when my zucchini in my garden is done.
ReplyDeleteYum! This looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteOooh yummy! Just the thing I am missing with my morning coffee!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMmmm, looks delish!
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny! Did you really have a KitchenAid mixer for 7 1/2 years before you ever used it?
ReplyDeleteNow I've gotta know: do you have a garbage disposal? Do you use it??
Glad your fingers are intact. And your zucchini bread looks delicious!!
I made this recipe last week and loved it so I just made a double batch, this time with patty pan squashes (they look like little flying saucers but taste very simlar to zucchini) that I had from our csa and needed to use up! I'm eating a slice right now and am glad to report it's just as good as the first batch! This recipe is perfect. I love how the top of the loaf carmelizes a little bit. Yummo!
ReplyDeleteMy first attempt is in the oven right now. I'm calling it "Z Bread" so my kids will eat it and then I'll tell them what's in it. That's the plan anyway. =)
