I suppose it is my own fault for asking my readers to recommend some Summer Reading.
I became thoroughly engrossed in Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games yesterday, and I expect to spend the better part of the day
You're hungry? We have goldfish crackers.
You're thirsty? That's why I bought juice boxes. (Okay, those were a rare treat for a play date, but I am assuming you're desperate here)
You're sleepy? Fine, fine. You don't need a bath. Just grab some baby wipes, go to town, and climb into your bed and crib, respectively.
Collins may have written her novel for a younger audience, but the suspense, political intrigue, and allusions to the mythical Greek character, Theseus, hooked me. I want to find out if Katniss and Peeta make it.
So I suppose you'll have to endure your own "hunger games" today as I finish the book.
Okay, maybe not so much.
But I really do want to find out what happens. I haven't been this absorbed in a plot since Edward and Bella. That's a
So I'll bide my time until you go upstairs for naps/quiet time today. I know you'll understand. You're bookworms too.
Love,
Mommy
{Have you read anything lately that you haven't wanted to put down?}
I just finished Twenties Girl (Sophie Kinsella). I read it in ~3 days. I love her books...they are a quick read. I just started Deep Dish (Mary Kay Andrews) last night.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read anything since the Twilight series a few months ago. That is cute letter to your family!
ReplyDeleteMy 10 year old just read Hunger Games on vacation and now I'm about to start it. I hear great things about it!
ReplyDeleteI just finished "The Girl with the Dragoon Tattoo" and it was much like that. Hard to put down. I agree with others, the first couple of chapters are background and are a little dry, but then it picks up. I was surprised no one warned me how "raw" it could be in parts, but I can't tell you how many people in the airports on our vacations commented when they saw I was reading the book!
That is the exact reason I haven't started a book in a while! Once I start I can't set it down! So glad you found a book you liked :)
ReplyDeleteHeehee! I've been plowing through the shack determined to finish it by the weekend finally so I can start another book. I'm sure the girls will understand someday :-) Oh by the way, it's official we're getting a Hob Lob in the Burg! Woohoo! Let's go to the opening together & make a day of it! Haha! :-D
ReplyDeleteLOL...I love it!!!! I am a bookworm too! I finished one yesterday and can so relate!!! LOL You daughter will develop a wonderful love of reading from observing your passion for it! They will want to experience what Mommy does! (smile) Enjoy your summer reading!!!
ReplyDeletethat book is amazing! Not something that I would normally pick up, but one I couldn't tear my eyes away from. Catching Fire was just as good. I can't wait until the third book comes out on the 24th of August (yes, I am counting the days)!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great book! I really liked the second one too. I get caught up in books too!
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Jen
Oooh, I wants it!! Sounds good...and my kids are due for some good book-neglect...note to self, stock up on juice boxes and baby wipes...
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, that is so funny! My kids are up and grown now, but I am so like you when it comes to a good book, that I am sure I did the same thing when I had a good book in my hands. Doesn't it seem like if you put the book down you are neglecting the characters? You keeping thinking "I have to get back to them!" Books are such a wonderful escape. It is sad though when we finish them.
ReplyDeleteYou are too funny! That is the sweetest picture of the girls! I'm lovin' the Hissy Fit book by Mary Kay Andrews! I don't have NEAR the time I would like to commit to ignoring the kids to read it, but I do love it!
ReplyDeleteI am so like that when I get into a book....other things don't matter as much:). According to my husband books are like crack to me...hope you finish yours soon!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh are they adorable or what!!!???
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good book...enjoy!!!
And try to at least feed the kids...or pass out string cheese and crackers. That should tide them over until breakfast!
Ha!
Hugs
SueAnn
What adorable cuties you have! Hmmm, trying to read some gardening books around here, very informative but not really page turners. I have a HUGE list from your link up, but I'm waiting until Fall to tackle that...
ReplyDeleteDid you finish the book? I looked for it in the library today and didn't find that one, but they did have a few others by the same author. I didn't check one out this time. I had a moment of weekness in Sam's today and bought Mary Kay Andrew's latest book. I can't wait to start reading it!
ReplyDeleteI had read the "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" series also in July. And I was flying somewhere last week and picked up "Hunger Games" for the plane! Loved it and couldn't put it down. I am now onto the next book and can't wait until the end of August for the third book!! I agree, while I liked the GWTDT books, I am enthralled with Hunger Games.
ReplyDeleteI just started Breaking Dawn, and I wish I could read it ALL DAY LONG. It makes me feel like I am a teenager again, and I love the feeling. :o)
ReplyDeleteWe went to the beach for the 4th of July, and I absolutely could not put down those Michael Crichton novels. I do love a good novel!
ReplyDeleteOnce, when my boys were little, I literally made myself take a break from reading fiction. I did not read one single work of fiction for a year. I finally let myself start reading fiction again when I thought I could handle myself a little better. Honestly, I think the house could fall down around me if I'm in the middle of a good story. :)
Love reading a great book that you can't put down-forgot I wanted to read this book too-thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteI am going back through and reading all the James Patterson Alex Cross novels and was so engrossed in one the other day I didn't even notice until they quacked that there were two ducks standing next to me on my porch. True story! I love getting into a book!
ReplyDeleteThis is why I can't read books. Because I have this sickness that will not allow me to put them down.
ReplyDeleteMy children run around like a bunch of hungry, dirty orphans...Husband has to dig through the hamper for clothes to wear, house falls apart...you get the picture.
The Hunger Games was fabulous. And for those of you wanting more book crack, be sure to check out the Sookie Stackhouse series. (HBO's TrueBlood) Wonderful!
