Salvation Army Chic

As I searched my house yesterday for something to feature on The CSI Project's Thrifty Makeover day, it occurred to me that the question was really, "what shouldn't I feature?"

Thanks to the empowerment I experienced after reading about other bloggers' victories with cans of spray paint and glue gun sticks, I started finding my own treasures to remake and blog about. Many of my favorite things are thrift store makeovers!

My $8 Salvation Army Desk Makeover is, to date, my biggest thrifty makeover. You can click that link to read about how I did it, but I'll share some before and after photos here today as well as some updates I've made to the space.

Before ($8, glass top table from the clearance aisle at Salvation Army):

After (Salvation Army Chic):

I frosted the entire glass top except for a small fleur de lis cut-out, and made a pleated muslin skirt that attaches with heavy duty decorator's velcro:

The back hallway stayed bare for awhile until I hunted down the items I wanted to accessorize with:

The chair (a $4 thrift store find) needs to be recovered, but most everything else is a thrifty find:
A $1.50 madeover planter holds craft supplies, a Wal-Mart ribbon-embellished lampshade lights up the area, and all sorts of other thrifty pretties make up this spot.

Don't you just love my Chalkboard Quote Tray?

So that's my biggest Thrifty Makeover...so far. If you keep reading, maybe I'll have more.

Happy Thrifting!

  2. I agree...I have can name more things that are twice loved than I purchased new in my home. I love the table. What a change. It took the hard lines and made them soft with the fabric. I like it Amanda.

  18. Wonderful! Simply beautiful!

I edit a blog for The Salvation Army and I'd love to link to this piece.

Also, when you pick up stuff at our stores and turn them into spectacular, designer pieces, we'd love to see them.

We have a brand new Tumblr site where we encourage folks to let us know about the Thrift Store 'gold' they find in our stores. Just upload a photo and a little story and away we go!

  27. Love it!!! I "thrifted" today...kinda...ok, the places I went were not as inexpensive as I'd hoped, but they were soooo cool! Hopefully I will have some makeovers to post in the future...I think I'm going to start taking my girlies thrifting on Thursdays (the first garage sale day of the week) or something...treasure hunting. How fun!

Hope you're having a blessed day. Happy Wednesday to you!

I love to hear your feedback! Please feel free to leave comments...just don't send me spam asking me to buy stuff off your website! I've got three kids and no money to purchase your magic weight-loss pill or bust enhancement, or whatever else you might be selling. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you! :)
