So, what's a mom to do for fun on Spring Break?
I bust out the spray paint when I'm bored. If it's not nailed down, it might get spray painted. The kids have to be careful around me when the warm weather arrives, lest they find themselves coated in Krylon's Gum Drop.
I recently purchased three uuuuuugggly metal mini planters from Dollar Tree for my Girls' Craft Night. They looked like this:
Not so much a fan of the dull brown.
I used some Krylon Blue Ocean Breeze left over from my bunny plaque, and some cheapie WM white spray paint and went to work. (For the record and full disclosure, there was a huge difference in coverage and paint quality! I will be purchasing Krylon for important projects from now on.)
I ended up with these:
What I love about containers like these are their versatility! So many ways you can use little metal planters.
Fill some with candy for a teacher, neighbor, or friend:
Use them to hold utensils at a backyard brunch:
Fill 'em with craft supplies for a night of crafty fun with friends:
Other ideas:
- The obvious- drill a few holes in the bottom and plant a few annuals.
- Use them to hold lip glosses, make-up brushes, and eye shadows on your vanity
- Line up some on a child's art center to hold crayons
- Hold tea packets, Splenda, and Keurig packs at a coffee meeting
Any other ideas?
I'm off to look for something else to spray paint. I'll be back tomorrow with the next Session in my Commenting 101 blogging series. We'll be discussing Replying to Comments!
Linking to Kate's Fair Weather Forum in hopes the weather here stays fair!
Love it! Cute idea. I like how small they are too. I couldn't tell the size of the bins until you put stuff in them.
ReplyDeleteHave a great spring break :)
I love them! I too love the size and think they'd be perfect in my kid's new playroom. I do believe I am going to steal your idea :)
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what a little spray paint can do ... LOVE the blue!
ReplyDeleteLove how the detail shows so much better in the new colors! I can't wait until the weather here gets a tad more warmer...I have a pile of stuff waiting to spray paint...getting excited!!
ReplyDeleteI might just steal this idea, I have lots of my beloved Apple Green and Antique White left from other projects...I also have lots of lip glosses. ;)
ReplyDeleteI've learned that you get what you pay for when it comes to spray paint! I refuse to buy the cheapo stuff....it never covers as well and it hurts my finger! I have a few things in my craft room waiting to be spray painted red to go in my half way made-over master bedroom:)
ReplyDeletethese are great! so simple and fun! I love anything that can be used for multiple events!
ReplyDeleteJust saw your idea at Centsational Girl. LOVE this! Will be going to Dollar Tree today. I'm thinking team colors for tailgating. Also, these would be cute as decorating vignettes filled with different seasonal items. Love! Will be hanging around your blog from now on!

ReplyDeleteSo cute! I am headed to the dollar store right now...I love the utensil idea!
ReplyDeleteI could use some utensil holders for an outdoor retirement party that I'm hosting in a few weeks. I just may have to hit the dollar store to copy your cute idea.
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea. Love the transformation. Bug Hugs!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love that blue color you picked out. That looks like the color my sister in law has picked out for her brides maids dresses. Thanks for sharing the great tip. I may have to get some of that paint.

ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to comment on this since yesterday. I looove it! What a super cute idea to fill up for Teacher Appreciation Week! GORGEOUS! I love how you used it for plastic-ware too. So cute!!!

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by my blog! I ran to Pier 1 to look for a bunny on a stick, but alas, there were none to be found...
ReplyDeleteI love what you did to these planters! I always see them in the Target dollar spot, but they look awful. Now I know exactly what to do with them! =)
I have one of these tins and I spray painted it too. I love the shape of them. That blue is one of my favorite spray paint colors. :)
ReplyDeleteLove to the tenth power!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I had to type "tenth" like 7 times because I kept typing it wrong.
These are great ideas here! And I love that Krylon blue too! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteTurned out very cute. Can't beat the dollar store for little containers.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to check into Krylon. I've used Valspar, and Rustoleum. They are OK, but it sounds like Krylon is worth looking into.
Hope you have a beautiful weekend!
Oh- P.S. Since I had trouble last time I tried to put the linky html in my post, I just put it in my sidebar this time.
Thanks again for hosting, Amanda-you are wonderful!
I love the ideas for a utensil holders. I'm always sticking things in paper cups and this would be so much cuter. I will have to keep this one in mind the next time I brave the Dollar Tree with my brood!
ReplyDeleteYou had me at 'utensil holders'. Great idea for a three day weekend, right? So I featured you today on Spray Paint Saturday.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
