Beach Week When You Aren't 21

With the craziness of last week, with Natalie's surgery and celebrating our 10th Anniversary, not to mention getting back into the swing of everyday normal life, I completely forgot to share a little recap of our Atlantic Beach, North Carolina trip with you all.

Beach Week should not ever be confused with Beach Week. We traded clubs and beer for juice boxes and water wings long ago. My late nights were a not so much a result of dancing until the wee hours, but angry loud whispering at Natalie and Michaela Byrd to go the heck to sleep already and quit wiggling around.

The girls and I rode down with my mom, caravan style, with my sister-in-law and my nephew following in another car. I had the good fortune of riding 80% of the way down in Susannah's back seat next to a good-natured baby while in the other car, Mimi answered Natalie's 100 million questions over the 6 hour drive. My sister and my niece met us at the beach. It was nice to be back at our childhood vacation spot!

It is first very important to note that my sister makes very delicious sangria, and there were moments with 4 adults and 4 children in a 3 bedroom condo that I could have used a pitcher all to myself.

The kids stayed busy inside at times...

...and we took a trip to the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium

...and we'd be insane to pass up dinner at our all-time favorite, Sanitary Fish Market, for the world's best hush puppies and t-shirts folks will recognize all over the country

...but of course everyone's favorite was the beach (and the pool).

So Beach Week didn't really resemble Beach Week in any way shape or form...yet I still felt like I had a hangover every morning. Was it worth it? You betcha!

Come back tomorrow for Myth #6 in my Blogging Myths series!

  1. Amanda, what great pictures! Your mom's grandkids all look so much alike--all beautiful. I think my very favorite photo is of Natalie and M.B. from the back. That's just precious.

Mmmm Sangria. . . do you have the recipe?

  2. There's so much to love in these pictures, Amanda - I adore the way you dress your girls! The cute little sideways pose that Michaela Byrd does kills me! Boy does the sweet baby girl ever resemble your girls. So glad you had a great vacation.

  5. Oh my goodness. Have not been to Moorehead City in years. My ex-in-laws moved there from Michigan when they retired. Loved it there and the Sanitary Fish Market brings back a lot of great memories.

WE loved buying fresh shrimp and packing it in lots of ice for the trip back to Michigan. Back then it was so cheap there. Bought it right off the boats. There was always the neatest colored gentleman there. He was ahoot and just so jovial all the time.

Great pictures. It looks like the family had a wonderful time.

    Enjoyed reminicing .

I've got three kids and no money to purchase your magic weight-loss pill or bust enhancement, or whatever else you might be selling. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you! :)
