And the Verdict Would Be "Guilty"

When T pinned a note to the dog, accusing her of being a Vegetable Thief, I didn't want to believe him. No one wants to think the worst of a loved one. Someone who would steal from the hand that feeds them?

If any further proof was needed to convict the suspected Vegetable Thief in a court of law, I'm fairly certain this would suffice:

I don't have a background in criminology and I don't have a law degree, but I have seen many episodes of Law and Order. Usually when they catch the bad guy, the district attorney gets to pace around the courtroom and talk about evidence. Then the bad guy gets sentenced unless it is one of those disappointing episodes when there is some technicality and the bad guy gets all smirky and is released.

This isn't one of those episodes. I certainly caught Emma red handed (red mouthed?), didn't I? She was only a little embarrassed. I don't think there will be any discussion of "I was framed" or a writ of habeas corpus or anything like that.

I'm not being too harsh with the sentencing. With a face as cute as that, I think she can go with a plea bargain.

What say you, jury?

  1. With evidence like that, I think a guilty verdict is pretty easy. But I hope the judge will go easy on her. She's too cute for very harsh punishment.

I must say, though, that she has better taste than most dogs--I'm not sure that I could resist fresh tomatoes, either!

  2. Ok, that is too funny! Funny because our dog does the same thing! I found way too many half eaten tomatoes this summer in our backyard!!!

  3. Haha! Wow, I can't believe how much she's loving those veggies. Well at least she's a healthy eater huh?

  4. Oh, seriously- that face!! How could you throw her in the slammer when she looks like that? You wouldn't be able to sleep at night Ms. District Attorney!! I am sure a pardon from the President or someone is totally on its way!

  5. Guilty as charged, but I have to tell ya...I think she is part of a veggie stealing ring!! Ours do the same thing!!! It's only worse when they finish their meal off with some fresh mint from the garden as well...seriously, they are too human!

  6. Definitely guilty! But give her a pass, since at least she's eating healthfully!

  8. Awww.... she's the same color as my Pom! And people don't realize it, but Poms are actually one of the most diabolical of breeds. They have that sweet teddy bear face that you just can't bring yourself to punish - and they know it!

  11. Guilty as charged. But no prison time since she is eating healthy and very fresh foods.

We had two dogs who would steal pears from low hanging branches. They always ate the evidence.

People think of dogs as being only meat-eaters, while they actually need a varied and balanced diet just as 2-legged people do.

  13. hahaha I laughed when I saw the veggie thief sign on her and now I am smiling all over again. Your little pooch is too cute. :) She's looking at you like, "What? Am I doing something wrong?"

Agreed--cuteness can definitely get her acquitted easily.

Good thing they still carry vegetables at the grocery store, huh? ;)

  15. What a cute thief! I have a vegetable thief at my house too - but it's my toddler. I wish she'd stop picking stuff that isn't ripe, but I do think it's adorable when I see her munching on a tomato straight off the plant.

  16. Too cute! I would say guilty but at least it was a healthy choice. My yorkie has stolen my peanut butter sandwhich from me before... I guess because we give her her medicine with peanut butter.

  20. How could you possibly get mad a a dog as cute as Miss Emma? Plus, she's smiling for the camera, even though she knows she's caught red handed!
