As much as I loved my Crayon Wreath, I was ready for a change on October 1st. Today I will to show you my new Halloween wreath and how I dressed my front door up with some Silhouette vinyl! Here's what my wreath looks like after some quick work:
I was short on time this week, so I used a coupon to pick up the wreath for 40% off at Michaels. The ribbon I had at home. Very Poe-esque, don't you think? I like the purple/orange/black combo.
Here's the door Before (plain old blah white), Recently (Crayon Wreath), and After (with vinyl):
I can't believe I didn't add the "Welcome" lettering before! The flourishes came with the Silhouette software, and I just used an existing font from my computer. Once I figured out how to cut something larger than the what the standard template supplied, the rest was easy!
If I have to keep the white front door, I like it a lot better all dressed up with some pretty vinyl lettering. It really makes a difference when you look at the house from the street! I'd like the wreath more with wider ribbon, but this is what I had on hand.
I feel like Edgar Allen Poe and his Raven would like my front door a lot...and so long as it doesn't it doesn't come "rapping, rapping at my chamber door" I am okay with it too.
Do you have a metal front door like I do?
Come back tomorrow and I'll show you how I hang my wreaths without one of those bulky wreath hangers!

I love it, very simple, but yet makes a statement. I stuck with simple too...a grapevine wreath with a huge orange bow. I added some new flowers to the pots, and hope to get a fall door mat...and then it'll be picture ready!
ReplyDeleteI dig the black feathers!! I'm trying to come up with a Halloween-y wreath to put out front.
ReplyDeleteWe have 2 frosted glass doors..so I can't wait to see how you hang your wreath.
I lOve the feather wreath! The welcome looks great ....I know this is going to sound stupid but what did you use to adhere them 2? I've never created much using my computer & see cute stuff like this all the time on peoples blogs.....what program do you use to do stuff like this?
ReplyDeleteVery Cute! I put up my Halloween wreath yesterday... I went the totally free route and used whatever was in the house!
ReplyDeleteI love your Poe-ish wreath! I can picture a black raven sitting on the perch of the wreath. Such a cute idea to use feathers.
ReplyDeleteI almost bought that same wreath at Micheals the other day! I love how it simmers up close. Good choice!
ReplyDeleteWe just painted our front door black and I can't wait to get a "welcome" decal put up. I think I am going to put something up for Halloween first...and then Fall...and then Christmas. Finally, after Christmas is over...I will add my "welcome". Love that wreath too!
ReplyDeleteVery nice Amanda! It looks great. : ) I made up a Halloween wreath this weekend too. I still need to take some pics and post it. I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

Looks good, Amanda! The "welcome" really does add a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! I have sadly not begun Halloween decorating, but I have had really good intentions to for a couple weeks!!
ReplyDeleteThe lettering really does make quite a difference on your door!!
I picked up that same wreath, too! But I also got supplies to try and make it myself, not sure if that will happen. I have wood doors, but use command hooks at the very top to hang wreaths.
ReplyDeleteLove your door!
I like the black, orange, and purple combination for Halloween. The feathers do look very Poe like! Adding the Welcome in black to your white front door really dresses it up and I'm sure it does look great from the street.
ReplyDeleteOur front door is wood but you really can't see it because we have a wooden storm door in front of it. Our door going into the kitchen is metal.
The welcome sign is beautiful! I love it, it looks so crisp on your white door & the wreath...LOVE!!! I should make one for my little sister just as a tease, since she got married her new last name is Poe (no relation to the poet though) & I'm always quoting EAP to her as a joke :-) The Raven freaks her out, Haha!
ReplyDeleteAmanda I love the vinyl! I would love to do something like that to my door, but have a double front door and one welcome would look kind of funny:) I LOVE the wreath too!
ReplyDeleteI love your wreath--perfect for October! But now I'm going to be reciting "Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary. . . " in my head. Once you get going with one of Poe's poems, you just can't stop!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Have you seen his room at UVa? I used to love to look at it when Jack was at the Darden School. Haven't been back to Charlottesville in way too long!
cute wreath, and other ideas. i love the ribbon to hang the wreath, but i recently found really strong magnet hooks that work on my metal door. about $5 from menards, will hold about 20 lbs. (home depot's only held about 9 or so, but would probably still do) keep up the good work.
