I'm pleased as punch to be hosting this year...we're going with my nice dishes, good crystal, and a tablecloth!
My sis-in-law and nephew are coming by tomorrow morning to watch the parade with the girls and me while T and my brother go out shooting. We'll have some cinnamon rolls and apple cider as a parade treat. No lunch plans, maybe a sandwich to tide the girls over...but the real show starts at 4 pm: Thanksgiving Dinner!
My mother-in-law is sharing some of the cooking responsibilities with me. That makes things so much easier, doesn't it?
Our Menu:
Fried Turkey (in-laws)
Smoked Turkey (in-laws)
Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes
Wild Rice
Roasted Butternut Squash
Cornbread Stuffing
Sausage Stuffing (you can find my recipe here)
Sweet Potatoes (in-laws)
Green Beans (in-laws)
Gravy (in-laws)
Hot Rolls
Homemade Pumpkin Pie
Chocolate Trifle
I'd say we're looking good! I'll be preparing a lot of these dishes today and prepping them to go in the oven tomorrow. I love make-ahead items. My in-laws, T's grandma, and his work friend will be joining us tomorrow. Should make for a delightful meal. We have a lot to be thankful for!

There is nothing better than Thanksgiving dinner! We are having roast turkey, dressing and gravy, rolls, cranberry orange sauce, green beans with bacon, corn casserole, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, Watergate salad, bourbon orange pecan pie, walnut pumpkin pie, chocolate chip pudding cookies, beer, wine, sodas...and my sister is bringing the fixings for bloody mary's and some apetizers! Whee! Your menu sounds great, too!
ReplyDeleteOoh, that looks so yummy!! I have never had fried turkey, but it sounds amazing!! We always do Thanksgiving at my parents' house, and they get a fresh turkey every year from a nearby farm. It's really delicious! We also do sausage stuffing -- I'll have to check out your recipe to see if we can give ours a little update :) Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteInteresting post. I like to hear what others are having. Ours is pretty simple. We will have baked turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potato casserole, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, homemade apple and cherry pies (alamode or whip cream).
ReplyDeleteI'm going to miss the sausage stuffing this year. It's the first year I'm not hosting and I think my grandmom's sausage stuffing is the one thing I will miss. Our recipe is a bit different than yours.
ReplyDeleteWe do:
Saute 3 diced celery stalks and one small diced onion in butter until translucent.
Cool and mix with 1.5 bags of bread crumbs. and 1 can of chicken stock.
With your hands, mix in UNCOOKED hot Italian sausage and 1 egg.
Spread in a baking dish and cover with aluminum foil. Bake at 350 for an hour.
I will be hosting Thanksgiving brunch this year, and since it's my first time, I'll be sticking to simple things- Roasted turkey, rice pilaf, mashed potatoes w/gravy, corn, rolls, and brownies a la mode..i'm excited =)
ReplyDeleteYummy Amanda! Since we're Filipinos, we mix in our dishes with the Turkey and mashed potatoes. We also have Morcon, sweet spaghetti for the kids and Brazo de Mercedes for dessert ( an egg custard wrapped in in soft merangue)! Happyp Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds amazing. I hope you have a really lovely Thanksgiving. Now I'm wishing I'd have made green bean casserole. I always forget it. We all share the responsibilities, too. So much less stressful.
