Happy Wednesday, friends! Today's DIY Project Tutorial is for a Scrap Wood and Mason Jar Centerpiece and comes to us from Erin, who writes the DIY on the Cheap blog!

Hello Serenity Now readers! I'm Erin from DIY on the Cheap and I'm very excited to have been asked by Amanda to share a tutorial with you today. I love creating things for my home without spending a lot of money, so I try to use what I already have on-hand whenever possible. That's exactly what I did with my ScrapWood + Mason Jar Centerpiece.

 Here is what I used for this project:

• Miter saw (Any saw will do though.)
• Cordless brad nailer (You can use a hammer and nails but this is much quicker!)
• 2 inch finish nails
• Wood glue
• Minwax pre-stain conditioner
• Minwax Stain and Sealer in Dark Walnut
• Mason jars

As for the wood, here are my dimensions which can of course be modified depending on your preference and/or what you have available.

• 2 - 2x6s cut to 17 3/4" long (for the sides)
• 2 - 2x6s cut to 6 1/2" long (for the ends)
• A fence picket cut to 17 3/4" long (for the bottom)

This project was very quick and easy. I just used my miter saw to cut my wood, then attached everything with wood glue and my brad nailer. (As mentioned above, a hammer and nails would work fine too.)

I used a fence picket for the bottom - these are super cheap and work great for little projects like this.

This entire project took maybe 15 minutes. I'd estimate it took 5 minutes to cut my wood, 5 minutes to attach everything and just a few minutes to stain it. I love finding uses for all of the scrap wood piled in my garage, and this was the perfect project for that.

I inserted 5 mason jars to serve as vases. My husband took the hint and brought home some pretty flowers for me!
