Painted Kitchen: Mini Makeover Sneak Peek

You may remember that I posted about my mom and mother-in-law being kind enough to come over and help me get my kitchen painted. It's a project that has been looming over my head for months. Honestly, if it hadn't been my mother-in-law's idea, I would have let it slide another few months because I hate painting more than anything (except running). But we got it done (except for one small touch up on a window frame that needed work), and I am in love with the color. Wanted to give you a quick sneak peek.

The room is hard to photograph because of the way the light comes through our windows, but I managed to get one sort of "meh" shot.

Here's the Before shot as a reminder (full post with pics is here):

Again, very hard to photograph with the lighting, but the old color was a pale yellow. Not awful, but dated.

Here's an iPhone shot of the wall next to our living room door:

The color is Nantucket Mist by Dutch Boy. They sent me two gallons of their Refresh paint, and I was highly impressed. They recommended it to me based on the odor eliminating technology (great for a kitchen). We purchased an inexpensive white Glidden primer from WalMart, as I wasn't sure about the coverage of gray over yellow.

We painted the entire kitchen (chair rail and below in white) with just a half a gallon of paint! I have plans for my dining room for the remainder. I was very happy with the coverage, and I love the color. For me, it's the perfect shade of gray. It has a lovely silvery blue undertone to it. I didn't want anything with green undertones, and I didn't want anything too warm.

I have one window treatment taken care of, two left to go. Then it's on to accessorizing!

What's your favorite shade of gray?

Disclosure: Dutch Boy sent me two gallons of paint to review, but I was not financially compensated for this post. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.

  1. Ha! Sorry, but your question about your favorite shade of gray made me think of the news I got this morning on my FB feed. Apparently the stars to play in "5o Shades of Gray" were announced yesterday.

Your walls look great! We just striped our hall a few weeks ago and I am in love!

  7. This is a great color! Wonderful transformation!

I love Bedford Grey by Martha. It's probably my favorite grey because it's a little more warm. But I rarely meet a grey I don't know. ;)

  8. I love the soft grey color! It's much better than the yellow that was there. I've really been thinking about painting in grey so I love seeing examples of how other people have used grey in their homes.

I love to hear your feedback! Please feel free to leave comments...just don't send me spam asking me to buy stuff off your website! I've got three kids and no money to purchase your magic weight-loss pill or bust enhancement, or whatever else you might be selling. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you! :)
